Poised for Growth in Charleston

Chris Jones comes to us with an extensive background in furniture sales. Today he's talking about the growth Charleston's experiencing and how McWaters is prepared to support it. 


Why is Charleston a great fit for McWaters?

Personally, I wouldn't choose anywhere else to work. I graduated from the University of Denver and spent time living in Aspen, but Charleston just has a little bit of everything. It's got great food, it's on the beach and it's not too far from the mountains. Most importantly, it's growing fast. The school districts are building 2-3 new schools a year, then there's the Medical University of South Carolina, and Roper St. Francis. The commercial sector as a whole has a lot of development and there's a larger government sub-contractor population.

It's the optimal place to be doing what we're doing and I'm excited to grow with McWaters. 

What drew you to McWaters?

McWaters is embracing technology and changing with the times. They’re really investing in the infrastructure in terms of our showrooms and the people they hire. I was very impressed with how excited they are about doing new things and doing them really well. It seemed really exciting. 

After I started with McWaters, I got to the Columbia showroom and I was really impressed with the Microsoft Surface Hub integration with the V.I.A. privacy walls. I'm really looking forward to having the complete product line at our fingertips once the Charleston showroom is up and running. 

What will you bring to the team?

The last dealership I worked at was smaller, so I managed a lot more in the sales process. I hope to use those skills and to lean on the rest of the McWaters team and their knowledge and understanding of Steelcase to help our customers find solutions.

I'm excited to customize solutions for the customer that I wouldn't have been able to offer at a smaller company. 

I also have a lot of experience in the commercial and medical markets, which will be easy to apply in Charleston. 

What project has made the biggest impact on you so far?

I went to an installation in Columbia and the project was using every different solution McWaters offers. They had a Microsoft Surface Hub with the Steelcase V.I.A. walls, Milliken flooring, Thread power distribution, Steelcase furniture, and even phone booths for privacy. I got to go when they were mid-install, so it was impressive to see the process the teams were going through. We had our General Manager and Director of Design there to make sure everything was going well. It really showed McWaters' commitment to doing things right.
