Meet Avonlea

January 11, 2019

Avonlea Denney is an interior designer currently working in Augusta. She comes to us with a B.S. in Interior Design from Georgia Southern and two years of commercial design experience. Avonlea plans to move to Charleston in mid-2019 to join our team there.

My husband and I have been in Augusta for the majority of our lives, so moving to the Charleston location is exciting because it’s a new city to be in and it’s a totally different and unique market.

What drew you to McWaters?

The opportunity to work with a team, and by “team” I don’t mean more people per se. When I researched McWaters and spoke with a few friends that worked here already, I learned quickly how everyone at McWaters works together and how the team is just one huge family. I loved that and it was immediately the first thing that drew me to McWaters.

Now that I'm here I've seen that there are thorough processes for everything and good communication. I think both of those elements really create a good team. Whenever someone has a question or concern, another person in the office is so willing to help or offer resources. Aside from work, everyone does care about each other’s personal lives. It seems to be a very healthy balance of work and personal.

As a whole, McWaters really cares about the well-being of their staff.

What excites you the most about working with McWaters?

Besides being a part of such a unique and awesome team, I’m really excited to work on projects from the different vertical markets. I am passionate about workplace design and I look forward to being able to help create functional and unique spaces.

What do you hope to bring to the McWaters team?

I’ve learned a lot about design and project management from my previous work experience. I know how to juggle a lot of “moving parts” and still maintain responsibilities. I think both of those things will really help me be able to create a space with other perspectives in my mind—from the installers’ to end user’s.

How is McWaters preparing to help you grow at this stage in your career?

I think being exposed to different types of projects in different markets is going to expand my knowledge in design and also offer more opportunity for creativity. At this stage in my career, I want to be exposed to projects in healthcare and education and I'm excited to have that opportunity at McWaters. I also hope to grow my leadership skills and there's plenty of opportunities to do that at McWaters.

I’m humbled to be a part of company where there is available growth in different areas.

Which was your favorite product that McWaters sells?

McWaters offers a lot of product training for its employees. So far I really like the Mackinac series. It’s just unlike a lot of commercial furniture in the industry. It really encourages different work styles and can beautifully enhance a space. Mackinac is just unique in how it fosters the needs of technology, focus, collaboration, and respite.

How does McWaters support customers in a wide range of markets?

Customers come to us to meet a variety of needs and get the same great service.

Customers like consistency from project to project and McWaters can offer that.
